Manama (Bahrain) The voting pattern in the UN General Assembly on Dec. 16 on the rescinding of the “Zionism equals racism” resolution has destroyed conclusively the myth of Islamic or Arab unity.
None of the Arab League members actually voted for the total and unconditional repeal of the 1975 determination that “Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination.” But then seven nations out of the 20 voting UN members from the Arab League (Palestine does not have a vote) voted with their feet in not opposing the revocation of the 1975 resolution.
The unity among the Arab nations was in any case a chimera. They were split right down the middle even on Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990. (Hindu Dec. 21)
