Bhopal: Hanjin – the hated term coined by M.K. Gandhi for the Untouchables – has been deleted from the official lexicon by the Madhya Pradesh government. It has ordered that the word harijan be replaced by anusuchit Jati (scheduled caste) in all government work. It has also been decided to introduce the same term in the nomenclature of the-1 Harijan welfare department. The state government has directed the heads of departments to ensure strict compliance of the order. Pramod Mahajan (BJP) clarified that the MP Govt, had taken the action in deference to the wishes of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who preferred the term “Dalits” instead of Harijan.
We congratulate the MP Govt. for the step and call upon the Govt. of India and all other State Govts. to follow this load – EDITOR.
