This is in support of your report: “Caste remains basic building brick of India” (DV Aug. 16 ’97 p. 10).
According to the latest census report, 82% of India’s population is “Hindu”. Most of the oppressed classes are also called followers of Hinduism. But Hinduism made them slaves of the upper castes. It does not recognise the “low castes” as human beings. Hinduism stands for inequality. Itis solely responsible for their degradation.
Babasaheb says: “Hinduism and social union are incompatible. By its very genius Hinduism believes in social separation which is another name for social disunity and even creates social separation. If Hindus wish to be one, they will have to discard Hinduism. They cannot be one without violating Hinduism.

If the Untouchables remain in Hinduism they will never be liberated. In Hinduism, there is no hope for the “low- er castes”. Untouchability is part of Hinduism. Those oppressed classes who want liberation should discard Hinduism. They. Should embrace any other religion having universal values of life. Those “Untouchable Hindus” who converted to Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity or any other religion will become members of a community whose religion has universalised and equalised all values of life.
But no religion is a unifying force to bring the people together. But caste is an important factor to keep the people together. Since religion is only an acquired identity we have to discard it. We have to strengthen every caste since it is a racial identity.
The Brahmana Jati Party (BJP) wants us to strengthen religion ignoring our castes.
This is because they want the non-Hindu SC/ST/ BC Jati’s to forget their identity and get dissolved in Hinduism which helps the upper castes to consol ideate their leadership. Jati identity will, on the other hand, weaken the upper caste hold on us.
Since the upper castes want to capture political power in the name of their god, they use their religion as a rope to trap the oppressed classes. They also use their religion as a dope to influence the Untouchables.
