Varanasi : A historian has demanded that the theory of the ‘Aryan invasion and destruction of Indus cities by Aryans’ should be removed from history textbooks at the earliest for the sake of truth and historical facts.
Professor Ajai Mitra Shastri, head, department of Ancient Indian History, Nagpur University, said the Theory of Aryan invasion has long been ‘discarded’ in view of the archaeological and linguistic evidences. It was unfortunate that it still continued to be repeated in Indian history textbooks.
A number of Indian and western scholars have refuted the contention that “authors of the Indus valley civilization were non-Aryans and were enemies of immigrant Aryans who destroyed them.” These scholars said that this civilization was actually created by vedic people and it represented a certain phase of the vedic civilization.
Criticising the racial interpretation of words, “Aryan” and ‘Dravida” he said the word Aryan had no racial connotation but was employed in a cultural sense in Indian Literature. Likewise “Dravida” was originally a geographical.
