New Delhi: History teachers in three Central universities of Delhi have strongly objected to the largescale alteration of contents of history textbooks by the Uttar Pradesh govt.
In a signed statement, over 50 history teachers from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia and Delhi University, asked the govt. to intervene immediately. Their appeal came in the wake of massive revision of history textbooks on communal lines.
The new textbooks also say the Aryans were the indigenous inhabitants of India, contradicting what historians of repute say in their books. According to historians like R.C. Majumdar and K.A. Nilakanta Sastri, the Aryans came from outside the ancient sub- continent. (Times of India, Sept.22)
