One of the greatest services done to India by Ambedkar is that he exposed huge distortions and misrepresentations in the history books written by Brahmin historians who wrote everything with prejudice against Untouchables & tried to portray their failures as glories, their defeats as victories. One glaring example is these historians talk lavishly about Hindu civilisation, while the whole Indian ancient history is of failures and humiliations. In the 11th century Mahmud of Ghazni, a Turkish chieftain whose base was in Afghanistan, defeated India 17 times and routed the Brahmins, while they were wailing entreaties. Another Turkish Moslem, Muhammed Ghauri, did the same. The Brahmin writers said caste system was an Aryan inspired classification of duties and obligations for administrative convenience. In fact it was a carefully conspired plan to keep bulk of the population as slaves of the Brahmins. They also tell us that Manu was the author of the caste system, whereas he merely codified what was already in existence.” We should for ever be grateful to Ambedkar for enlightening us that the basis of caste and untouchability was the whole Hindu literature. He proved this in his thesis, ‘Who Were the Shudras’ that the Vedas are the foundation of our present state of affairs. If caste & Brahminic oppression has been the cause of social conflict and foreign rule in our country, then, there is little doubt that Ambedkar rightly deserves to be placed in the forefront of the modern history of India for revealing the truth. Babasaheb himself wanted to write the history of India. He said that the present books written by Brahmins were distorted. Too much has been said about Hindu princes and their glories, but not enough about their failures to eradicate injustices inflicted by the Brahmins. The English Oxford History of India has proved how Hindu princes spent all their energies in fighting among themselves over women and other trivial matters. The glories of Ram Raj, Krishna and Kaurawa and Pandwas are nothing more than crafty imagination of the Hindu historians. The greatest empire of Mauryan Ashoka, when India was indeed glorious, and when Buddhism was widely diffused throughout the world; is another part our ancient historians would rather ignore but can’t. The present educational system in India is full of stories & fictions and children in schools and colleges are being forced to believe that they are true. The contributions of many great men making India a true nation has been deliberately undermined. The Untouchables had to fight for 35 years with the caste ridden politicians of India to include the life history of Babasaheb in the school books. Even now books written by Ambedkar are banned in many parts of India. If Hindu leaders believe in what they say why don’t they take upon themselves the responsibility of spreading anti-caste literature on the State’s expense ? The fact is that they only talk about it but do not mean to eliminate caste system. The Hindu historians have kept up their tradition of falsifying history, even after independence. They made Gandhi a man that he never was. They made him a saint and a lover of the poor and downtrodden. The truth is quite the opposite. The true story of this man cannot be known without studying the minutes of the two Round Table Conferences in London. First, he refused to accept the existence of castes in India, and when he failed in it posed him- self a leader of the Untouchables. First, he tried to eliminate Ambedkar from the conference but when failed to do so, re- fused to accede to the just demands made by Babasaheb. At one stage he secretly tried to persuade Muslim delegates to oppose the demands of the Untouchables, as a condition of acceptance to the Muslim political demands. This is the man the Brahmin historians would want Untouchables to accept their Bapu & saviour. What a pity | The so called Father of the Indian nation and a Mahatma (Gandhi) then embarked upon a fast-unto-death to intimidate Untouchables to surrender their political rights, awarded by the chairman of the Round Table Conference, Ramsey Mcdonald-then Prime Minister of England. Gandhi wanted to cancel the right of the Untouchables to elect their own political representatives. He wished the Hindus to elect leaders for the Untouchables. Unfortunately, he succeeded in this intimidation and as a result Hindus have installed bogus leaders over the heads of the Untouchables, like Jagjivan Ram, Gurbant Singh. The future generation of the Untouchables would have to start their struggle all over again to recover their birthright of electing their own representatives. The new generation should treat these Brahmin writers with suspicion and distrust. The Brahmins do not want to read or know about the books of Ambedkar, as they reveal the truth. They have everything to hide and would like us to believe that the present system is good and working well. All the same books written by Babasaheb are gradually coming to the notice of the educated Untouchables ; and the Hindu fortress of cards is bound to collapse. Babasaheb’s name is coming into the limelight as the enlightened Untouchables are digging up the true history of India. The history of the last 35 years bears witness to the fact that Brahmins, whether they be politicians . or writers, civil servants or occupying judicial positions, would bitterly oppose the movement of the Untouchables for justice. They seem to be firmly dug into the positions of false security and superiority. The alternative haunts them. They are picking out useless and ignorant and selfish men amongst the Untouchables in Order to defeat the real demand for true political representation in Parliament. This is part of the same conspiracy to perpetuate the caste system and inequality. It is high time the Untouchables understood their designs and unite under the flag of Ambedkar’s mission of justice & equality. We must know the true history of India to understand the present conspiracy, and to carve the future course of our movement. The guidance given by our saviour Babasaheb in his monumental books will be: with us for all times to come. (Courtesy Oppressed Indian, April-1982)
