Colombo: Had the Buddha, whose teachings have reached far and wide, ever gone out of India during his lifetime ? It would seem he had or at least that was what President Jayewardene of Sri Lanka would have a World Buddhist Conference here believe. “The Mahawansa and other books record that the Buddha visited Sri Lanka during his lifetime and delivered several sermons”, said Jayewardene in his opening address to the conference on June 1 (PTI).
