BOMBAY : The National Council of the Indian Rationalist Association has protested against the steps taken by the Andhra Pradesh government to elevato a degree college into a university in the name of Satya Saibaba “setting aside accepted norms and procedures in the field of education“. The council in a resouition called on the people to impress upon the state and Central governments to desist from taking “such a harmful and dangerous measure”. The council was also critical of observance of religious customs and traditions at state functions which it felt was a departure from the path of secularism set out in the preamble of the Constitution.
