Bangalore: As the rulers are busy fighting Muslims, the country’s economy is going to dogs. But they don’t care whether it goes to dogs or cats. Because to them their dharma is more important than the country.
Washington: India, with a projected average growth of about 5% I 1993 is way behind China which is headed for a much higher growth rate of about 8% a record in the recession-ridden world economy, says the interim assessment of the International Monetary Fund’s “World Economic Outlook” (Statesman Dec.24).
The upper castes are not bothered about the IMF report or the country’s economic stagnation because individually the rulers are strong. Their bank balance is growing. Some” have bank accounts abroad. So why should they bother if the country: suffers? But can an individual be happy if the society as a whole is not happy?
Yes. Their dharma talks of only “individual salvation” – not “collective salvation”. Individually, the rulers are rulers because they control everything. They get a vicarious pleasure as others suffer. This perverted dharma is causing all the trouble.:
