Patna : The one-day Bihar State Harijan-Adivasi Conference on Oct. 9 decided to lunch a country wide ‘Dalit movement’ headed by a militant organization named Dalit Sena. The conference, attended by a large number of tribals and Harijans from all over the State and representatives from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, U.P., Madhya Pradesh, Pondicherry & Nagaland, regretted that “despite 36 years of independence we are not getting our full constitutional right””.
Ram Vilas Paswan, Janata MP, and convener of the conference, declared that this was the beginning of a new “social-cultural revolution” for the downtrodden. For the first time Mindi and Christian tribals led by Shiboo Soren and N. E. Horo, were coming together to fight for a common cause. (Statesman, Oct. 11)
