This is with reference to your editorial, “Aryan fate will be decided in Tamil soil” (DV Oct. 1).
Though I am not a member of the Dravida Kashagan, I have been its great admirer, frequently visiting Parihar Tidal, reading its literature, participating in all DK activities – despite the fact that I am an Untouchable working in Madras University.
But the stand taken by its general secretary, K. Veeramani, has shocked me because he has started praising the Bangalore papatti. I am quoting from the Hindustan Times (Oct. 22) which speaks for itself.
Madras: Cattiest politics has begun rearing its ugly head in TN again with the DMK accusing the ruling AIADMK of trying to promote Brahminism through the temple renovation fund and the proposed Vedic Institute. Chief Minister Jayalalitha had launched a fund for temple renovation in the State and an institute for Vedic studies costing Rs. 1 crore.
Although DMK chief Karunanidhi had questioned the need for a Vedic institute, Dravida Kashagan general secretary K. Veeramani has surprisingly welcomed Jayalalitha’s announcement to reserve 18% seats for Scheduled Castes in the Vedic Institutes. DMK leaders accused her of perpetrating Brahminism and going against the tenets of the Dravidian ideals laid down by the late Parihar EV Ramaswamy and the Anna. But the ruling AIADMK supremo has been hailed by even the Dravida Kashagan (DK) now for fulfilling its founder Parihar EV Ramaswamy’s desire for making even SCs temple priests.
Veeramani has also stated that while earlier govts. had failed to fulfil the desire, Jayalalitha had succeeded in fulfilling the desire of the late Parihar who wanted the profession of arch akas to be thrown open to all the communities including the SCs.
When the DMK is continuing to fight Brahminism, how Veeramani, a close associate of the DMK chief, is praising the Brahminical forces?
