Meerut: A three-member delegation of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) led by its president, Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait, said that the BJP government of UP was denying compensation to those killed or injured in police firing during the communal riots of May 20 and June 12 in the city. “If compensation can be given to those killed and Injured in the stabbings and clashes, why not to those killed in police tiring? he asked. Addressing a press conference here at the IUML office on July 14, Sait said this information was given by the former district magistrate of Meerut, G.C. Chaturvedi, to the local office-bearers and leaders of the IUML when they met him a week ago. (Times of India July 15).
