“Untouchables are not Hindus and never Hindus” said Babasaheb Ambedkar, the saviour of the Untouchables. Hence, they have no connection with Hindus or their temples. So, we Untouchables strongly oppose the Bangalore papatti move “to make Harijan’s temple priests.” Untouchables have their own religion, their own temples, their own deities. They are not interested in entering their oppressor’s place of worship nor are they interested in becoming priests in their enemy temples.
The Bangalore papatti does not know that her own religion says that only a born Brahmin can be a temple priest. This Brahminical rule had been upheld even by the highest Supreme Court itself.
So, the Bangalore papatti is indulging in mere stunts to deceive the innocent Untouchables by making false promises.
Did she take the permission of her Kanchi lord before announcing it? Will the Hindus tolerate an Untouchable priest? Will the Hindus enter a temple with an Untouchable priest? Is there any precedent to what the papatti is trying to do?
All this proves that the Bangalore papatti is only trying to fool the innocent Untouchables. When we Untouchables don’t want to interfere with her temples, her people, her religion, why she is trying to interfere with our innocent people?
We are sorry that instead of sternly condemning this action of “Hindu sing” (meaning hoodwinking) the Untouchables, the Dravida Kashagan is praising the Bangalore papatti’s dangerous move. This makes us think that Periyarists have been corrupted and that DV has proved right. The editor of DV must write to the DK chief, Veeramani, to stop flirting with the Bangalore papatti.
