Christer Lundgren, foreign editor, GNI-STAN, Stockholm : Through my friend, Author Jan Myrdal, I received some copies of DV which we found most interesting. I want all the back copies & all your books.
American Socity for Education & Religion, Springfield, USA : We are grateful you are opening a way for dialogue and understanding between Muslims & non- Muslims. All the best.
Fr. Albert Nambiaparambil, Director, Centre for Indian and Inter-Religious Studies, Rome : Congratulations for your courage to say the truth that is painful. In our world of “mass media”, where the truth is the first casualty, DV is a sign of hope for the voiceless. This is my frank opinion.
Kamal Nath, Delhi: Devendra Swaroop, director of the RSS- sponsored Deen Dayal Research Inst. (DV April 1) is shy to admit his RSS connections. This is the case with all RSS men. His institute is headed by a top RSS leader, Nanaji Deshmukh. He says RSS is built by middle & lower middle-class people. This is true. I was also in the RSS & belong to a middle class but quit it when I came to know the value system it stands for. The RSS workers may not be rich but the RSS philosophy stands for the rich & the high caste. It is the values & the philosophy of an organisation that is important and not the financial status of its members. RSS philosophy is outlined in the RSS Bible, Bunch of Thoughts. Swaroop says RSS does not yet foreign aid but the CIA study on RSS (DV March 15) admits that RSS is getting foreign funds, and this was revealed to Curran, the author of this document, by RSS leaders themselves. Nananji Deshmukh, on his visit to US during the Janata rule had issued statements in US saying that he collected lot of funds for the RSS.
Gita Pandurangi. Nagpur: Glad to see the famous DV editorial on the Devadasi system, “Prostitution that is Sanctioned by Hindu Religion”, (DV Dec. 16, 1982) is reproduced in the prestigious women’s journal, Eves Weekly (March 12). This is a great credit to DV though the same Eves Weekly had last year published a very nasty article on you holding you responsible for the Meenakshipuram mass conversions.
