Reservation is about to be finished but Confederation is out to save it.
Place: Ram Lila Ground, New Delhi.
Date: Dec.14 (Sunday) 9 a.m.
The All-India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations struggled hard and therefore, three anti- reservation orders have been withdrawn and two of them are still in force. The Indian Parliament restored the benefits of reservation by a Constitutional amendment, but the Supreme Court has admitted a petition so that reservation benefits are diluted, and hearing may take place any time. Be prepared to defend it. Otherwise, our achievements will be taken away. To give effect to the 85th constitutional amendment, an OM dated Jan.21, 2002 was issued. We are trying our best to defend it in the Supreme Court.
The struggle waged by our workers, leaders and employees could save reservation to some extent. Public sector undertakings and departments are being privatized at a fast rate. Recruitment has also come to a halt. The present scenario is closing the doors of progress and except for reservation, Dalits are yet to begin their progress in media, industry, professions, art and culture, agriculture and other important spheres of development and even basic needs. Privatization is a means to push Dalits back in history. We must understand that without struggle no one is going to give us our rights. Anti-reservation orders were withdrawn because of struggle and right of reservation in private sector can be achieved through more struggles.
We are committed to fight against Manuwadi terrorism, which is victimizing Dalits, Christians, Muslims and poor. For securing reservations in the private sector and other rights, our Confederation is holding a mammoth rally on Dec. 14, 2003, at Ram Lila Ground, New Delhi. We will also demand an immediate halt to the curtailment of religious freedom and saffronisation of history.
