I want to add a little about what P.P. Lakshman had to say. There seems an unfortunate tendency among our people to repudiate everything that the vaidiks do even if it is something they picked up from Budhism or makes independent sense. For instance, many people seem to despise vegetarianism simply because some upper castes practice it. It is however a fact that vegetarianism came from Budhism. Similarly, Vipassana is a great meditation technique discovered by the Budha himself.
DV is very democratic: I love reading DV and what I particularly like about it is that the Editor is very democratic certainly far more democratic than us “national” papers. I see very often Letters criticising DV given fair space. My point of disagreement with Dr. Jamanadas is not whether Goenka is right or wrong. If he has been talking to the Shankaracharya then that by itself makes him suspect. But meditation sharpens the mind and steels the resolve of those wishing to fight Brahminism. Dr. Jamanadas certainly should equip himself with all the weapons available.
If meditation is one such weapon, especially if it is a technique discovered by the Budha himself, one of the first and most successful warriors against Brahminism, then why not? Meditation does not belong to the dwijas after all.
