I would like to comment upon two points in the exchange below.
1). The Zionist Arthashastra (The Protocols of the Elders of Zion) is a fraudulent piece of work concocted by the Tzarist secret police some 100 years ago to discredit Jews in general. Russian politicians used popular anti-semitism as a way of distracting the people’s attention from bad or unfair politics. If the Russians could blame the Jews for all that was wrong, they didn’t blame the regime. It is regrettable that this propaganda work is now being circulated in other parts of the world.
2) The “infamous” Jewish lobby: As far as Europe is concerned, 1 don’t see much of a Jewish lobby. Most Europeans are critical of Jewish politics against the Palestinians, my own country has actively tried to help the Palestinians in establishing a Palestinian state. The “massive” support for Israel is mostly an American phenomenon. And if we look closer, we see that there is much more to it than a “Jewish lobby”. The lobby certainly exists, but its clout is not decided by the 4 million Jews living in the US. Its main power comes from Conservative Christians (“Bible-thunders”, “fundamentalists”) who believe that the state of Israel is the fulfillment of a biblical prophesy and therefore god’s will. Here we are dealing with a huge amount of people, a no American President can overlook
this group and survive politically. fronically, | believe the American foreign minister Israel found most troublesome was Henry Kissinger – a Jew.
3) After the World War-II, when hundreds of thousands of Jews were fleeing the societies that had murdered and persecuted them (the Germans were not the only ones), neither America nor any European states were willing to accept many of them. They were instead “channelled” willy-nilly fowards the Middle East, although many of them would rather have gone to the US. Thus, many Jews became zionists by default, because there were no other options left open to them. The exclusionist Western policies caused a massive influx of Jews into Palestine and thus created the demographic basis for a Jewish state. The rest is well known: The Arabs resisted, the Jews beat them in the field and Israel was’ L4 recognised by the United Nations. Israel is not simplys a zionist invention, it is a state that was created very much through Western policies. It is ironic to see how European anti-semites now join hands with Arabs. Without European anti-semitism, there would have been no Israel in the first place. The Palestinians are not simply the victims of the Jews, they are above all, although indirectly, the last victims of European anti- semitism. (imfosse@oniine.no)
