Bombay: Hindu nazis have started a war against the church., The scene of the battle, Tapeshwar, is a serene spot in suburban Borivali, about 35 kilometres from the city. It is a centuries-old formation of caves adored with “Hindu gods” carved in black stone. Today, the caves are in a derelict state and Tapeshwar itself is no more than an address for upper middle-class housing societies.
If Tapeshwar has any religious associations, it is not to a Hindu temple but to the St. Francis d’ Assisi Church, a boys’ school and junior college affiliated to the Church and a shelter for poor and orphan boys also run by the Church.
Hindu Nazis demolished a huge cross carved of stone in one of the caves.
