Bangalore: The confusion, chaos and violence in Iraq is increasing day by day. All that we have said so far on Iraq is also the opinion of an American author in his book, Night Draws Near: Iraq’s People in the Shadow of America’s War, by Anthony Shadid.
War correspondent of the Washington Post, he has been reporting from Iraq and hence the book is an authentic version of what is going in a country which is about to be torn into three parts – Shia, Sunni and Kurds if the Americans don’t get out as early as possible.
This is what he says:
“At 5.34 am, on Thursday March 20, 2003 the United States began a war of its own choosing, buoyed by grand ambition and perhaps folly”. Its declared reason to wrest terrifying weapons from Saddam Hussein – was bogus or a delusion; its plan for the occupation that followed a scribbled afterthought; some 25,000 Iraqi civilians and 2,000 American and British troops have since been killed in chaos that may yet wreak civil war.
DV proves right: As killer Bush is punished in his own home by his own people as Katrina lashed America’s Gulf states, he is also cursed the world over. Both Nature and History have condemned the killer.
Shadid also says the same thing: the illegal occupation of Iraq was a total failure.
DV has proved right in predicting that America will be defeated in Iraq.
