Good health, education, gainful employment, a home to call their own … These are the fruits of the innovative developmental programmes launched by the Government of Karnataka. And as the Government continues to work to meet the needs and aspirations of its people, the future looks bright and promising.
The realise the Mahatma’s vision of ‘self-sufficient’ villages, the Vishwa scheme was launched on October 2nd, 1991: Its aim is to boost rural development and generate continuous productive employment through village and cottage industries. Today, this scheme is being extended to cover the urban poor too.
A society deprived of education is a society deprived of progress. Realising this the Government of Karnataka launched the Akshya scheme. Under this unique scheme, a cash incentive of Re.1 per attendance day is being given to poor children studying in Classes I to IV. This scheme-aims at the reduction of school drop- outs and abolition of child- labour. All the students who regularly attended school launching the Shrama Kalyana Nidhi, today. It has provided Rs. 15 crores for this fund for the year 1992-93.
The Government has many other innovative schemes for the betterment of the people.
* The Shushrusha scheme provides for a free medical check-up for needy people twice a year through health camps.
* The Beedhi Bhagya offers social security to the unorganised sectors through a Group Insurance Scheme. For the first time, construction and renovation of places of worship in areas inhabited by the weaker sections is being taken up under the Aradhana scheme.
* Under the Bhoo Guna scheme, soil testing is being taken-up to enable farmers to plan their cropping patterns scientifically.
