Justice V. M Tarkunde, a leading jurist and chairman of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, has defended untouchables joining Islam. The Hindu (Aug. 8) says “Harijans have now found a powerful weapon to escape from oppression – the threat to embrace Islam. They are following the right policies to make the Hindu society behave”, he said.
