Endless persecution of Dalits under the “papatti” rule
At least in Indira Gandhi’s case some Sikhs were caught, put on trial and hanged but in Rajiv murder (May 21, 1991) over an year has passed, crores and crores of rupees spent but to this day nothing has happened. Except for the Congress Party winning on Rajiv murder “sympathy wave” nothing happened. But the Bangalore papatti in her Madurai speech said that her victory was not because of Rajiv. Her boasting and bragging as usual.
But the poor Mrs. Margatam Chandrashekar is out of the Congress Working Committee. She is not even a member of the AICC. She is finished. Except the Lok Sabha seat, her last chance, she is politically dead. And she deserves it. Though a Dalit she is of no use to her community. Despite her long association with Indira Gandhi and her son, enjoying the membership of both the Parliamentary Board and CWC, she did nothing to her people. She will soon meet the fate of Jagjivan Ram who at least revolted and formed his own party before he died. But this Tamil Aid-Dravida woman will die unsung, unwept. She married a Brahmin (Chandrashekar lyer) and her daughter Lata also married a Lankan upper caste (Priya Kumar). Lata is now an MLA from a reserved constituency though her father was a Brahmin.
Cut-Throat half dead: Meanwhile, the Cut-Throat is half dead holding on to his enormous wealth and many wives. Grooming his son, he will soon disappear. No tears be shed. History has already spit at him.
DV has proved right on TN. Now that the Bangalore papatti has completed one year in office, it is time for us to say what is going to happen in the next one year. In our editorial on Tamil Nadu we had given a two-year time. One year for the papatti to play and another year for the people to react. (“Aryan fate will be decided on Tamil soil: Dravidians facing do or die battle”, DV Edit Oct. 1, 1991).
The Bangalore papatti, the glamour queen of yester year, was crowned at Madurai to mark her one-year rule. The “national” toilet papers came out with their own verdict on her but DV has its own way of looking at things. We in DV bring to light what is left out as inconvenient by the toilet papers.
Dalit vote for AIDMK: Ours is particularly a Dalit point of view. Dalits constitute 25% (govt. figure is 20%) of the Tamil Nadu (1/4 of its population. All the 45 reserved constituencies were won by the Bangalore papatti party (AIDMK) and her ally, the Congress, the original brahminical party of India. That means the Dalits have solidly supported the papatti. Because, the Dalits were so disgusted and disappointed by the Cut-Throat’s DMK which was in power after the MGR death.
What the Dalits got in return for voting the papatti to power was police bullets beginning from Paramkudi (Aug. 19, 1991), Ramnad dt ., killing five in police firing on their way to Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti.
On Dec. 18, 1991 in the heart of Madras city, police opened fire before the Basin Bridge police station to disperse protesting Dalits. In this fire, three Dalits were killed on the spot.
Again on March 15, 1992, four Dalits were butchered in Kurinjankulam village in Tirunelveli dt. Almost simultaneously in a Dalit village, Nulumoolai Kinaru (same dist.), the police opened fire injuring seven Dalits.
PMK agitation: On June 2, 1992, a Dalit, Nandagopal, was tortured to death at the Annamali Nagar police station (Chidambaram) and two inspectors and four constables gang- raped his wife, Padmini, before killing her husband. These are only a few reported cases of Dalits being the exclusive targets of oppression under the papatti rule. There are several hundreds of unreported cases.
Of all the reported cases only in the last one, the Annamalai Nagar police station incident, the Bangalore papatti, the tyrant, yielded and ordered a judicial probe. The incident took such a serious turn that the Madras High Court itself ordered an inquiry by a woman IPS officer, Latika Saran, SP (Crime), Madras. Because of PMK’s powerful agitation this much was achieved.
We want the papatti to become more cruel on Dalits and step up her attacks. Dalits have enough population to sacrifice. If two are killed they are capable of producing five.
So, we welcome this oppression and more oppression and finally when the serpent is hurt it will bite. The criminal acts we expected from the Bangalore papatti have not touched even the 25% mark. We hope during the rest of her rule she would complete the target.
DV deadline nearing: Dalits are protected by the best of law and a wonderful Constitution. Over and above this the papatti herself holds the Home portfolio. But to this day inspite of such widespread crimes, not even a case has been filed in any court of TN for the crimes against Dalits.
If she goes with the same speed, the two-year period that the DV has fixed will be enough. Of this two years one is over. The angry Tamils say her time is nearing. The illiterate, village-dwelling Dalits have realised that their educated brothers have betrayed them, political parties have cheated them. They feel helpless.
Meanwhile, the “socialist brahmins” in the Hindu, the country’s chief brahminical daily, are advising the papattito go slow. They are deeply worried. They are asking her not to antagonise thex1 Adi-Dravidas (Untouchables) and Dravidas (BCs). But the power-intoxicated papatti will not listen to anybody. She will complete her assigned job before she is finished by the enraged Tamils.
Black cats: She has claimed that the Tamil Tigers have been “wiped out” and the LTTE banned. If the State is free from Tigers why she is protected by 300 Black Cats?
Meanwhile, the Rajiv Gandhi murder is over one year old. The police and investigating agencies have spent billions and billions of rupees but still they could not come to the end of the inquiry.
The papatti’s only opponent is Cut- Throat but she has claimed that he too has been finished. And that means she is supreme and unchallenged. And yet why she is so heavily guarded? And yet why she is guarded by 300 Black Cats and half the police of TN utilised for her security? She wants to be guarded against whom? Of course, the people. And the people will teach her lesson before the two-year deadline expires.
False reports on Tigers: India’s toilet papers are putting out all false reports saying the Tamil Tigers are finished. But they don’t know the Lankan Prime Minister Premadasa, a Backward caste Buddhist, and Velupillai Prabhakaran, also a BC,are very close. The papans in Tamil Nadu are trying to break this unity through such false stories.
The Indian toilet papers reported that all the Lankan Tigers put together numbered just few thousand boys. But the figures of the “dead” Tigers given by the same India toilet papers came to several lakhs. The very same toilet papers reported that mere 2,500 boys and girls of the LTTE defeated the mighty Indian Army, said to be the fourth largest in the world. Such contradictions and white lies abound in our toilet papers. Political sources admit that Tigers have proved that they have none equal in the whole world. They say Tigers remain unparalleled in the revolutionary history of the world. And they say such “brave” Tigers have been humiliated by the Indian Aryan papans.
Dr.Ramadoss praises Tigers: Will the Tigers teach a fitting lesson to these Aryan and restore the Tamil honour? Political sources here are sure the Tigers will pay back in the same coin. While all the political parties proved cowards it was only Dr.Ramadoss and . his PMK that publicly praised Prabhakaran and his”brave” Tigers though under the latest Act banning the LTTE, even a mere praise of LTTE would invite jail sentence. But Dr.Ramadoss did not care and thereby he won the hearts of the Tamils, said these sources.
Muslim leaders corrupted: Meanwhile, the Tamil Muslim leadership is wholly corrupted. The Muslim League got split into two. One section went with the Cut-Throat and another tailed the papatti. The 11% Tamil Muslim population is leaderless and they too are looking up to the PMK. There is no hope for the Muslims. It is yet to produce its Tamil counterpart of Kerala ISS.
Periyar movement: The Periyar movement is cool. The “Periyarists” are wasting time on petty things. They are not taken seriously. No DK leader is arrested by the papatti. Rather, they are trying their best to butter the papatti.
The much-publicised Institute of Vedic Sciences of the papatti has not taken off because the papans are opposing it on the ground that she proposed reservations to Dalits in the job of temples priests. How could the papans tolerate Untouchables entering their temple?
So, even some papans have started opposing her. Poor papatti’s end is nearing.
Though we support the Periyar/ Dravidian movement, we can only shed tears over its slow death which our Editor had long back predicted (Caravan 1978). Periyar started the Backward Caste movement but alas his followers killed it. The BCs betrayed Periyar and cheated the BC movement.
The DMK is headed by a BC. The Congress Party is headed by a BC. All parties except that of the papatti are headed by BCs only. Dalits are the only people having no political party or political leadership. And yet the BC movement is so weak.
Looking from every angle, the future of TN is bleak. We don’t think the Tamils could fight the Aryans and defeat them on the Dravidian soil unless the Tigers oblige. Right now the only hope is PMK.
