Washington: Burger King, a fast-food chain of restaurants with branches all over the United States, has reinstated a Sikh woman who was fired last year for refusing to take off her “karra” (steel bangle) while preparing food. Ms. Darshan Mann had argued that she could not remove her “karra” because she was a Sikh and her religion required her to wear it. But the company rejected her plea ‘and sacked her. Ms. Darshan Mann, who is an American citizen now. sued Burger King for religious discrimination with the help of the equal employment1 opportunity commission (EEOC) which safeguard’s the interests of minorities and other special groups. (Times of India Dec.24).
