Bombay Dr. (Mrs) Maisaheb Ambedkar along with over 5 lakh dalits from different parts of Maharashtra would block the State legislature session beginning here on Sept-6. This was announced at a mammoth conference of the Marathwada Vidyapith Namantar Nirdhar Satyagraha Parishad held here on Aug 15. Prof. Arun Kamble, president of the Maharashtra Dalit Panthers, said the Sept. 6 agitation would be last one on their demand to rename the Marathwada University after Dr. Ambedkar. Maixeheb presided over the historic conference which was inaugurated by VT Rajshekar of the Karnataka Dalit Action Committee & editor, Dalit Voice. The conference was addressed by Ramdas Athavale. (Dalit Panthers) Dr. Baba Adhav, Poona, Sharad Patil (Dhule), Mrs. Mrinal Gore. A number of Left organisations, high caste and even Brahmin writers attended the conference which in a resolution supported the Mandal Commission report on OBCs & called upon dalits all over India to observe Sept- 6 as a protest day & express solidarity with the Bombay agitation. Dalits from different parts of India are also urged to come to Bombay on Sept. 6 & converge before the legislature House. The striking policeman & mill workers of Bombay have been also urged to join the agitation.
