Bhubaneswar: Christians should not convert Untouchables or tribals. Meenakshipuram mass conversion of Untouchables into Islam was publicized by the Nazi Press as “the greatest tragedy suffered by the country after partition.” But the converted Tamil untouchables say they are liberated and are happily living. If the Christians, Muslims or Sikhs resort to conversion it is described as a crime but if the Nazis do the same it is called a holy act. Over 17,000 people particularly tribals had been “reconverted” by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad during the last six years. Highlighting the activities of the VHP and the Akhil Bhartiya Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram, the office bearers told reporters here on Jan. 11 that the conversions taking place in tribal districts like Phulbani and Koraput had been checked to some extent.
