Bangalore: Four shops of a Harijan were allegedly set on fire by a group of Hindus in Attibele in Anekal taluk late on Feb.7. Police said Srinivasa, brother of Nagaraj, the Taluk Dalit Sangharsha Samithi president, was playing cricket around 4 p.m. with friends when some Hindu youth came to the ground and wanted to Srini join the play. Srinivasa and his friends did not allow them to do so. A quarrel followed. Later, when Srinivasa and his friends were going home, some Hindu boys allegedly abused them, resulting in fistcuffs. One of the friends of Srinivasa allegedly stabbed one youth, Vishwanath, injuring him seriously. Soon the news spread, upper caste (Hindus) came to the streets and set fire to the shops belonging to Nagaraj, brother of Srinivasa. (Indian Express, Feb.8).
