Bangalore : We have received a letter from Melbourne from one who wishes to remain anonymous complaining about the persecution of aboriginal Blacks in Australia. On seeing that DV is the “Voice of the Persecuted Minorities”‘ taking up the cause of India’s Untouchables, tribals, Muslims, Christians and persecuted minorities like the Burakamin of Japan, Blacks, Khurds of Iran, French-speaking Canadians, Palestinians, Sri Lanka Tamils and the Jews, he says the Aboriginal Blacks of Australia with a total population of 100.000 are also a persecuted minority. He has sent clippings from the Australian press to support his claim.
The Sun, Melbourne Nov. 10 : L. A. Coppe (Burham) compalins that in schools Aborginal children are ill-treated and hence many of their children don’t attend schools. In the same paper (Nov. 3) under the headline, “Boy held, kicked by Police”, the report says an off-duty policeman had booted an unconscious Aboriginal boy in the face while another cop held by the hair, according to a complaint lodged by a woman with the city cornoner of Perth. Reporting from Sydney, the same paper (Nov. 9) under the headline, “I lost baby after Beating : Black“, says an Aboriginal Black woman said she miscarried after being hit with a baton by the police. Aboriginals complained the police used too much violence during the Redferen riots.
