A distinguished Tamil Dalit-Marxist-Leninist- Scholar, opposes hinduising or brahminising the church under the pretext of “Indianisation’. The church should revert to its traditional role of conversion so that the Tamils as a nation are made distinct by turning them as non-Hindus. He calls upon Tamil Christians to choose the path of Tamil nationalism if they are to live upto the faith of Christianity. The story of Moses leading the Israelites to freedom from slavery under the Egyptians and showing them a “Promised Land” (or the path of national liberation) is the core theme of the Old Testament. The same urge for national emancipation prompted the Jews of the New Testament period, who were under the yokes of Romans, to find a leader in Christ, who was accused, when presented before Pontius Pilate, of claiming to be the king of the Jews and prodding the Jews not to pay tax to Caesar. The cause of struggle for national liberation is the message of Bible. He pleads that if the Tamil Christians wish to be true Christians they have to identify and understand this message of the Bible, and merge with those striving for the national emancipation of the Tamils from the unscrupulous Hindu-imperialists.
Originally a paper written for a seminar to be held by the Dr. Ambedkar Research Centre of the Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary, after seeing the paper, the organisers had turned cool. Obviously they did not agree with the thesis of the book. Hence brought out as a booklet.
