New Delhi: Nehru birthday came and gone. Not one soul in the capital took note of it — except when they saw big frontpage reports in the Brahminical press. kt was not a people’s celebration but an entirely “official function” — meaning a Brahminical show. But even Aryans outside the top official circles are not grateful to their own Aryan “Chacha Nehru”. History is changing. A Hindu (Nov. 15) report said: The grateful nation on Nov. 14 remembered the first Prime Minister and architect of modern India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, as a large number of functions = seminars, exhibitions, competitions and other programmes — were held to mark his 102nd birth anniversary. In keeping with the now well-established tradition, the solemn homage- paying ceremony was held at Shanti Van early today under tight security. President, Venkataraman, Vice President Shankar Dayal Sharma, and Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, with some of his cabinet colleagues led the “nation” in paying floral tribute to the “apostle of peace”.
