Meerut Riots- Revenge For Meenakshipuram ?

We have no words to describe the agony of Meerut. All evidences point out that it was again the Hindu police (the notorious PAC) that took the initiative to massacre the Muslims. While one communal riot surpasses the other in profile & content, Meerut has nearly perfected a deadly technique experimented earlier with stunning success at Jamshedpur, Agra, Ranchi, and latest in – Old Delhi. The tremendous success of this explosive experiment resulting in scores of death naturally brought great joy to these blood-thirsty Hindu fascists and they will be now emboldened to spread it to other major cities in the Hindi heartland and then take it down South Coming events have cast their shadows. RSS and its many front organisations like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad are feverishly engaged in this new game of “loving Harijans” with a view to turning these poverty-stricken, illiterate, innocent dalit masses against their co-sufferers. When the poor fight between themselves, the rich can stay happy. This new-found love of dalits serves two other purpose. 1. It helps check the angry dalits from quitting Hinduism in disgust & (2) divert the same dalit fury against Muslims and Christians. A double barrelled gun that can kill two birds in one shot Since in this game it is the dalits and Muslims that get killed, it is a net gain for the Hindu fascists. A dalit-Muslim fight is thus a great boon to RSS. And that is what it is waiting for. As the dalits and Muslims live together in crowded urban ghettos this newly-perfected technique brings disastrous results. The technique as such being a closely guarded secret no advance publicity was given at Meerut. Hardly any newspaper wrote about this dalit-Muslim clash there. Press reporters who went there were told that it was a Hindu-Muslim clash. The Deccan Herald (Oct 9) was perhaps the first in India to let the cat out of the bag by disclosing this “revenge against Meenakshipuram” where the “mass conversion of Untouchables to Islam took place. The RSS Organiser (Oct. 17) throws more light on this technique: “Harijans (at Meerut) are attacked not only because they keep pigs but also because they refuse to convert for petrodollars Last month, they (Muslims) attacked the house of Swarm Ken, in Podiwara, Meerut, a Harijan leader who edits Soshit Samaj, and injured nine members of his joint family.” But in the Meerut riots it was only the very poor who were killed. No rich person of either religion was affected. Every report had confirmed that it was a fight between the poor. From when did the Muslims at Meerut become hostile to dalits? Not only at Meerut, we have not heard of the two being at loggerheads anywhere in India, exceptions apart. Since both are poor, since both are hated by the Hindus who are their common enemy since both live together and have very many common interests, we have evidence of great unity between these persecuted minorities. This is so all over India. When this seed of hatred was sown in the hearts of dalits ? Rashid Masood, Opposition MP of the area speaking in the Parliament debate on the riots, said: Meerut had never witnessed any difference between Valmikis (dalits) and Muslims. Yet for the first time Valmikis were pitted against Muslims (Deccan Harald. Oct. 8). Manzoor Ahmed, the ruling party MLA from Meerut, also said that it was the RSS in league with some Hindus in his own party that started this riot to discredit him. He testified that Muslims have always been the best friends of the dalits. This opinion was shared by other MPs including dalit MPs who visited Meerut When dalits and Muslims have been living with amity from generations at Meerut how come this clash took place only now? Who made the dalits turn against Muslims? Who is responsible for this mischief? Is it not clear that the motive behind this heinous crime is to disrupt the emerging unity of the persecuted minorities: dalit- Muslim-Sikh- Christian- tribals? Even the OBCs are lately waiting to join this alliance of the persecuted. But such a unity is not in the interest of the Ruling Class Such a unity of the persecuted will also hasten the emerging class-caste struggle. Such a unity will not only pose a danger to the Ruling Class but also to the ruling party which has been reaping rich dividends through its divide and rule policy. More communal riots mean more votes to the ruling party. After every riot the ruling party will put the entire blame on RSS and this will make the Muslims so happy that its votes are ensured to the ruling party. RSS will go on attacking the ruling party and vice versa confusing every body. Some Marxists, therefore, suspect a ruling party- RSS secret understanding on this issue. They say RSS is launching communal riots to keep the ruling party in power. As long as RSS is there, Cong. I will be the hero of Muslims & Christians. The common cause on cow slaughter is enough to prove this secret pact, they say. But can the Ruling Class prevent the emerging unity ? No. It is true that the Ruling Class is desperate. It is gasping for breath. In its last ditch battle to save itself, it is resorting to heinous crimes. The unity of the persecuted may receive a temporary setback by such communal riots. But they will not succeed for long. The saner sections among dalits and tribes will soon call this RSS bluff. The RSS has resorted to the latest technique after exhausting all other tricks. But soon it will get dis- appointed. Here we have a word of caution to our dalit comrades. Their child- like innocence, total poverty, illiteracy will naturally make them believe anybody who shows some love. The RSS has already announced that it has collected Rs. 5 crores to “Hinduise” dalits and what it means by that is explained above. Many Hindu swamis and other religious leaders are commissioned to do this job. Hundreds of high caste boys are trained and given paid jobs to carry out this task. In tribal areas even govt. officers are actively co- operating in this mission. The visit of these Hindu leaders, who had never before stepped into this forbidden territories, may indeed bring new hopes in the hearts of innocent dalits. Quite a number of them said they were taken aback when some Brahmin swamis wandered into their dirty slums, distributing prasad, sweets, fruits, along with copies of the Gita. It is here the danger lies. If the Hindus had considered dalits as Hindus, why did they keep them out as outcastes since centuries? have that not been citing the authority of the Hindu sacred books that say that outcastes are not Hindus and, there- fore, they must be treated as beasts and not as humans? In the four-fold Chatur Varna, the dalits have no place. They are outside the caste system, hence outcastes. Those who are now trying to “love Harijans” have not so far repudiated the contemptuous references to dalits in their sacred scriptures. Without doing that how to believe their sudden love? Dr. B. R. Ambedkar has repeatedly made it clear that Untouchables are not Hindus. (read; Why Go For Conversion? DSA publication, Re. 1, pages 20). That is why he quit Hinduism. Being the original inhabitants of India, both Untouchables and tribes have remained untouched by the poison of Aryanism brought to India by the Aryan invaders. The Hindu leaders have never made any effort to accept the Untouchables and tribals. On the other hand, we have the daily quota of killing of the dalits by this very Hindus. On one side these Hindus are kicking, killing. burning, raping and destroying their little property inflicting the world’s worst form of Apartheid on. Untouchables and yet on the other side they are coming forward with this “Love Harijan look” with little lollipops. But it is the duty of the educated dalits to impress upon others that dalits are not Hindus, but a distinct nationality. They are the proud creators of the world’s greatest and the most ancient flourishing civilisation of Harappa and Mahenjo daro. A dalit intellectual has also discovered that they once ruled (see page-7) the pre- Spanish America. These Hindu drama to woo dalits is part of their design to destroy the dalits’ separate identity and their glorious culture and civilisation. The dalits along with tribals are the original in- habitants of India and, therefore, this country rightly belongs to them. Not to the foreigners: Usurpers. Dalits, therefore, need not learn lessons on “nationalism” from these foreign barbarians. As Renan says” a heroic past. great men, glory-1 mean glory of the genuine kind these form the social capital, upon which a national idea may be founded. To have common glories in the past, a common will in the present to have done great things together, the will to do the like again- such are the essential conditions for tee making of a people.
