With ref, to the report in the Hindustan Times (June 14, 92), I wonder if this “locking of horns” is for mating or a real fight. Seshan did not behave like a mad bull for the first time. If counting was stopped at Ballygunge and repoll ordered in some booths subsequently, there was at least some plea for it. There were some violent clashes during the poll.
What about the Patna parliamentary constituency in 1991? No report, no clashes, no inquiry, no repoll- simply the election was countermanded without anybody opening his mouth. This is cold-blooded murder. A similar game was played at the Vaishali Assembly election this year.
Does Basu expect P.V. Narasimha Rao to remove Seshan simply because he has helped Rao to get S.D. Sharma elected? PVN is fully assured of upper caste support in every party whether it is CPI, CPM, BJP or even the JD. The BJP people are more shrewd. They put up a ST candidate for President’s post when they became fully sure that S.D. Sharma would win. The no-confidence motion was a mere eye wash.
In the last year’s election and this year’s too, Seshan humiliated a number of IAS officers of the Bihar cadre. Why Basu did not raise any voice then? Was there no CPI or CPM when Indira Gandhi called for conscience vote in the 1969 presidential election? These sacred thread “marxists” will continue to play this nefarious game so long as the SC/ST/BCs do not have eyes and ears. Was there no Jyoti Basu when three Supreme Court judges were dismissed in 1973? Seshan represents the Aryans. Beware of this Alsation.
