Maharashtra fooling Dalits  

Nagpur: The Maharashtra Govt. has decided to appoint 40 Additional Collectors in the State as part of the plan to curb atrocities on Dalits. There were already six Additional Collectors. Their number would now be 46 and would cover all the districts. The Collector would now be solely responsible for prevention of atrocities on Dalits. He would be free to transfer 50% of his work to the Additional Collector to enable him to concentrate on the new responsibility. Violence on Dalits cannot be prevented through such official, administrative or legislative steps. The ruling upper caste ethos itself being violent, the only way to stop such violence is to empower the Dalits so that they themselves would counter the violence.
