Yoga Rajan, Fed. of Indian-American Christian Organisations of N. America, 110 – Maryland Ave.,NE Suite 510, Washington DC 20002: The US Govt. has been complacent in addressing continued human rights violations in India, said Bishop Ezra Sargunam in his meetings with officials of the State Dept. here on Aug.7 and 8. He submitted a memorandum highlighting the resurgence of attacks against the religious minorities, Dalits and the Tribals. He briefed them on the Hindu nazi mischief in enacting anti-conversion law. The bishop, former chairman of the Tamil Nadu Minorities Commission and the presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Church of India, was accompanied by P.D. John, chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee of FIACONA. They ‘also met officials at the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). He expressed his disappointment over the US Govt. reluctance to address these kinds of continuing serious human rights violations on Christians in India.
Dr. Awatar S. Sekhon, Box – 60246, University of Alberta Postal Outlet, Edmonton, AB T6G 2S5, Canada: Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) under the Akali Dal-Badal, now headed by a Sikh traitor, Gurcharan Tohra, may withdraw its title, Professor of Sikhism, from Sardar Gurtej Singh, formerly of the IAS for exposing the sinister designs of Prakash Singh Badal. Longowal etc. and for supporting the Canada-based cop- turned-Sikh scholar, Gurbax Singh Kala Afghana, who was excommunicated from the Sikh panth. Kala Afghana was honoured with a gold medal in the Roseville gurdwara for his contribution to promoting the message of Guru Granth Sahib.
Abrar Ahmad Islahi, Editor, Muslim World League Journal, PO Box – 537, Makkah, Saudi Arabia: We are grateful for the very important issue of the developing axis between zionists and the Indian ruling Brahminical races discussed in Dalit Voice. This will be taken up in one of the forthcoming issues of the MWL journal. Looking forward to having closer co-operation with you on all issues of human concern.
Naveed Hussain, 2425 – Lark Drive, Montgomary, A; – 36108, USA: Keep in touch with Dalit Voice to keep in touch with India’s problems. When one can subscribe to cable TV and trash magazines, Filmfare, what is wrong with Muslims subscribing to DV? Our common enemy, the vaidiks, hate DV but still read it. They are mentally alert people and fully alert about the threats to their own self interest (caste interest). What has gone wrong with Muslims? I am surprised. DV takes a bold stand. It speaks the Truth on the Enemy’s face. It is also concerned about the well being of its antagonists. It wants peace with Aryans in India and the zionists. It wants them to change their perverted thinking. It wants them to end all hostilities with the persecuted peoples — not only in India but world over. Our Editor, V.T. Rajshekar, is ready for a dialogue even with zionists. Yaron Meyer of the Israeli Embassy in Delhi must not hide, and he must speak out and reply to the queries and concerns raised by our Editor and Brother Raju Thomas from Madras. DV needs representatives in US, especially the Blacks. Why this willful negligence? DV has launched its jehad with pen. Why the Muslims are hesitant even to raise their pen and speak against injustices? Is it a crime even to open our mouths? Why are Muslims silent to the plight of their own Muslim brothers and Dalits? I need a reply. (nvit@yahoo.com).
Edward C. Corrigan, 171 -Queens Avenue, Suite 506, London, Ontario, N6A 5J7, Canada: Here is a powerful anti-zionist statement from Rabbi Mordechi Weberman¥ He says because we are Jews, we must support the Palestinians. It is an interesting and eloquent statement from yet another Jewish voice that recognizes the injustice committed against the Palestinian people:
“Because we are Jews” (http://www. marchforjustice. com/becausewearejews.phb). by Rabbi Mordechi Weberman:
There are those who ask us why we march with the Palestinians. Why do we raise the Palestinian flag? Why do we support the Palestinian cause? “You are Jews”, they tell us. “What are you doing?” And our response which I’d like to share with you this afternoon 1s very simple. It is precisely because we are Jews that we march with the Palestinians and raise their flag. It is precisely because we are Jews that we demand that the Palestinian peoples ae returned to their homes and properties. Yes, in our Toran we are commanded to be fair. We are called upon to pursue justice. And what could be more unjust than the century- old attempt of the zionist movement to invade another ‘\1 v people’s land to drive them out and steal their property? The early zionists proclaimed that they were a people without a land going to a land without a people. Innocent sounding words. But utterly and totally untrue. Palestine was a land with a people. A people that was developing a national consciousness. We have no doubt that would Jewish refugees have come to Palestine not with the intention of dominating, not with the intention of making a Jewish state, not with the intention of dispossessing, not with the intention of depriving the Palestinians of their basic rights, that they would have been welcomed by the Palestinians with the same hospitality that Islamic peoples have shown Jews throughout history. And we would have lived together as Jews and Muslims lived before in Palestine in peace and harmony. To our Islamic and Palestinian friends around the world, please hear our message. There are Jews around the world who support your cause. And when we support your cause, we do not mean some partition scheme proposed in 1947 by a UN that had no right to offer it. When we say support your cause we do not mean the cut off and cut up pieces of the West Bank offered by Barak at Camp David together with justice for less than 10% of the refugees. We do not mean anything other than returning the entire land, including Jerusalem to Palestinian sovereignty. At that point justice demands that the Palestinian people should decide if and how many Jews should remain in the land. This is the only path to true reconciliation. But we demand yet more. We demand that in retufning the land back to its rightful owners we have not yet done enough. There should be an apology to the Palestinian people which is clear and precise. Zionism did you wrong. Zionism stole your homes. Zionism stole your land. By so proclaiming we proclaim before the world that we are the people of the Torah that our faith demands that we be honest and fair and good and kind. We have attended hundreds of pro-Palestinian rallies over the years and everywhere we go the leaders and audience greet us with the warmth of Middle Eastern hospitality. What a lie it is to say that Palestinians or Muslims in general hate Jews. You hate injustice. Not Jews. Fear not my friends. Evil cannot long triumph. The zionist nightmare is at its end. It is exhausting. Its latest brutalities are the death rattle of the terminally ill. We will yet both live to see the day when Jew and Palestinian will embrace in peace under the Palestinian flag in Jerusalem. And ultimately when mankind’s redeemer will come the sufferings of the present will long be forgotten in the blessings of the future.
Saleem Jaanu (saleem_jaanu@yahoo.com): According to statistics Islam is the fastest growing faith in the United States, Canada and in the world. This is happening despite widespread misconceptions and negative media portrayal of Islam. The following are quotes from prominent US, Canada and UK news sources regarding the phenomenal growth of Islam:

Jai Birdi (jpbirdi@hotmail.com): The second International Conference on the Punjabi Nation and Nation building was held recently in Prince George, a city 500 miles North of Vancouver. Canada. Among several Punjabi scholars and activists that attended the conference, Dr. Ronki Ram of Punjab University (Chandigarh) was the key figure to raise the issue of Dalits in relation to the nation-building in Punjab. Citing the recent incidents of Talhan, Boota Mandi and other villages and townships in Punjab where clashes between Dalits and Jats have been increasing day-by-day, he said that if one is serious about nation-building then it is paramount that Dalits are included at all levels of the decision-making process. A political scientist and an activist he came to Vancouver to attend the international Dalit Conference in Vancouver in May this year. He went back to India but was invited by the organizers of the Prince George conference to present a paper on the Punjabi nation and emancipation of Dalits. By attending this conference, he made it possible to profile Dalit agenda at the Punjabi mainstream stage.
Ronki Ram, Dept. of Political Science, Punjab University, Chandigarh – 160 014: I had again been to Canada for attending a World conference on “Nation- Formation in the 21st century and the Punjabi Nation”. In that conference, I read a paper on “Dalit liberation and the question of Punjabi Nation”. The conference was from June 28 to July 1, 2003.
S.P. Singh, Takipar, Danapur, PO Digha, Patna – 800 012: This refers to the Patna seminar on Brahminism by Bihar Rationalist Society (DV June 16, 2003, p.21). I do not know Dr. Kanwaljit. Dr. Rama Shankar Arya who spoke at the seminar is a learned man. I do not know how believers in God and the non-believes like the Rationalists and Budhists or neo-Budhist come on the same platform. Arjak Sangh started by late Rama Swaroop Verma of UP have their own marriage rules. They do not invite Brahmins. This is a good point. But have they any plan to destroy the caste system? Kurmis have formed a forum with the Chamars, and inter-caste marriages are going on. Will the Bihar Rationalist Society support a BC leader to rule Bihar? In the long list of speakers at its May 25 seminar, why there is not a single Muslim? For the last 10 years I have not attended a single marriage ceremony in which a Brahmin is employed. Last July my youngest son was married without the services of a Brahmin. Let god or some many gods remain. Let people worship in their own way but the Brahmin priests or any kind of priest must be ousted from the temples. Brahmins have given up all hope. Backward Caste persons like Vinaya Katiyar and Uma Bharti are doing their job in the name of Hindu religion. What a shame. All our efforts to unite the SC/ST/BC and minorities has failed so far. It is because we do not know our past and not even our present. Make Dalit Voice a useful paper. Lost glory of the Indian Dalits cannot be restored unless they get some education and wealth. The BSO cannot be destroyed unless political leaders like Laloo, Mulayam, Chandrababu Naidu, Deve Gowda etc. make an all-out effort to exclude the Brahmins from social ceremonies like marriage etc. Educating the “educated class” is a big job.
M. Kolandai Samy, Designate Headmaster, Govt (B) Hr. Sec., School, Ulundurpet, Villupuram dt., TN – 606 107: There is an urgent need to undertake a well participated sociological, economic, cultural and political planning of the society. The 60-crore strong women of India constitute over 52% of our population. They have been deprived of their basic fundamental rights in all spheres of life. The Representation of the Peoples Act 1951 should be amended to provide them with not less than one-third of the total number of elected seats in the parliament and state legislatures. That means 182 women MPs should occupy our Parliament. The current reservation system must be amended to provide the following population-wise representation. Brahmins 4.2%, Kshatriyas 3.5%, Vysias 1.7%, FC Shudras 6.8%, BC Sudras 42%, SC 15%, ST 7.5%, Muslims 12.5%, Chrisitans 3%, Sikhs 2 %, Budhists 0.8%, Jains 0.5%, others 0.4%, no religion 0.1% -Total 100%. This will reduce the percentage the people living below the poverty line. Those interested in the master plan may write for my book on human rights. pages 100, 2002.
Gurnam Singh Muktsar, 2 – Bhagat Singh Nagar, b/h Bus Stand, Muktsar – 152 026: On July 6. we observed the 5th anniversary of our Punjabi journal, Begam Pure da Vassi which has stepped into its 6th year of publication. It is a wonder that in Punjabi we could continue a Dalit paper for five years. We honoured 15 people for their services to the magazine. The role of English and Punjabi DV was remembered on this occasion. A book, Main Hindu Nahin Marunga (I shall not die a Hindu) written by me, was released at Ludhiana at a function organised by the Samaj Parvartan Sabhiachar Manch, Punjab (Rs. 50). This book contains the burning thoughts of Babasaheb Ambedkar. Budha, Sikh Sant Gurus and Phule discarded Brahminism and launched a revolution against it.
Raju Thomas, Post Box – 2296, Madras – 600 023: This refers to the Letter of S.K. Thorat in DV June 16, 2003 (p.17) and of Dr. A.R. Biswas (DV Aug.1, 2003 p.16) on the origin of the Aryans in India. They quote Advocate Bhagavan Das book, Thus Spake Ambedkar, Vol.2. I checked and found out that they had quoted the wrong page. It is not p.45 but page 51 where Babasaheb spoke like this: “When the Aryans came to India, varna system came into force. “. You may please refer to other Volumes also where you can find more relevant references. For example, in Volume III, Babasaheb says:
“The history of India is said to begin with the Aryans who invaded India, made it their home and established their culture. Whatever the virtues of the Aryans may be, their culture, their religion and their social system, we know very little about their political history. Indeed, notwithstanding the superiority that is claimed for the Aryans as against the non-Aryans, the Aryans have left very little of their political achievements for history to speak of. The political history of India begins with the rise of a non-Aryan people called Nagas, who were a powerful people, whom the Aryans were unable to conquer, with whom the Aryans had to make peace and whom the Aryans were compelled to recognize as 4 their equals. Whatever fame and glory India achieved in ancient times in the political field, the credit for it goes entirely to the non-Aryan Nagas. It is they who made India great and glorious in the annals of the world”. (p. 267, 1987).
Our Editor has already collected all references in all the Volumes of Babasaheb regarding the Aryan invasion of India and proposes to publish them shortly. All those honest Aryan writers including B.G. Tilak, Gokhale, Nehru and many other Aryan leaders have already acknowledged the fact that the Aryans in India are foreigners. The fundamental question is: What are we going to do with them? As they are our alien enemy oppressors how shall we deal with our enemy? Even many foreign scholars and foreign directories published in the US and UK have now started accepting the ¥ historical truth that Aryans in India are foreigners. They were all misguided by the Aryan writers and those “foreigners blindly believed what the Aryans propagated. This change has taken place because of the constant efforts of Dalit Voice. I may quote one or two examples. Until 1991, the Aryan propaganda was that Hindus constitute 85% of India’s population. The Operation World published from the US and the UK about the population statistics of India says that India’s 85% population belonged to Hindu. But the latest edition of Operation World (2001) published that the Aryan Hindus in India constitute only 15% and the rest belonged to the indigenous people (pp-309). Another internationally renowned German scholar, Dr. Eric Robert Frykenberg, who is a member of the DV family world-wide, wrote that Aryans in India were only 15% (Fundamentalism & the State: The Fundamentalism Project, Vol.3, The University of Chicago Press, Chicago and London, 1993 pp-239). All freedom-loving and saner souls in the West are coming forward with an unbiased mind and they are willing to accept the truth about India and will not be carried away by the Aryan propaganda. But their number is very thin. It will take time for truth to score over the untruth and only through our committed efforts can the Aryan propaganda be unmasked and exposed to the rest of the world. But more efforts should be undertaken within India by our own intellectuals. Because of the control of media by the Aryans (Thus Spake Ambedkar Vo.1l, p.57) they control our minds and control everything.
Dr. Ashok Adhav, MHB Colony, M-36/2521, Yerawada, Pune – 411 006: This refers to Brother Rajendra article (DV March 16, 2003): “When Holeyas are divided why blame Madigas?”. Who wants unity of all castes of Dalits? Dalits were never one. Even before “independence” Deorukhakar tried to create disturbance in the meeting of Dr. Ambedkar at a Marath Mandir, Bombay. Kajrolkar contested the election against Dr. Ambedkar when Dalits of Maharashtra were fighting with Brahminism. Jagjivan Ram and others were enjoying ministerial posts under the Brahminical Congress. Later the Congress was crowded with Dalits, BCs, minorities and tribals. Then Brahmins started deserting the Congress and joined the Brahmana Jati Party (BJP). Dalits were never a single homogenous community.
Syed Fakruddin Ahmad, Advocate, President. All- Bihar Minority Lawyers Forum, Chakbasu Lane, Kachi Sarai, PO Ramna, Muzaffarpur, Bihar: share the feeling of Md. Zakiuddin (DV Feb.16, 2003 p.13). He speaks of the scenario prevailing in the country. It is a fact that wherever in the country there is a riot, Dalits are being used by the Hindu nazis. It is also a fact that our Editor started fighting single-handed against the atrocities committed by Hindu nazis against Dalits, BCs and minorities. It is he who lighted the lamp of “Dalit-Muslim unity””. In a vast country like India, it is not possible to correct thousands of years of Brahminical atrocities. Fortunately, DV family is enlarging day by day. This is worrying the Brahmanwad lords. Editor V.T. Rajshekar has rightly focussed on the Muslim weaknesses but has not analysed the real cause behind the talk of unity between Dalits and Muslims or the hinduisation of Dalits. The following are the causes that unite the Hindus with the Dalits:
(a) Dates of festivals and mahurat of marriages are fixed by Brahmin pandits. Dalits too follow the Brahmin commands.
(b) Brahman pandit recite their mantras in Sanskrit in all temple prayers. Though Dalits are not allowed to enter such temples still they flock around the temples and bow down before the Brahmin priest.
(c) Right from birth to death all the rites are performed by the Brahmin priest. Dalits are made to understand that no one can get salvation without the Ashirwad of the Brahman priest.
That is how the Dalits become closer to Hindus than the Muslims. The Hindus cunningly exploit such occasions for poisoning Dalits against Muslims. It is the primary duty of Dalit leaders to bring out Dalits from the clutches of Brahminical system. They should try to bring about a revolution in Dalit thinking. They should be taught that they are no less than the Brahmins and should not beg for their admissions into temples. They should construct their own temples, should appoint Dalit as priest and all the rites should be performed by their own (Dalit) people or they should embrace Budhism. the religion of their forefathers. As for Muslims, they too should come forward to do everything for Dalit-Muslim unity. Editor V.T. Rajshekar is a great asset for all of us. He is the symbol of Dalit-Muslim unity. We all should strengthen his hands without any reservation if we want to live in India with peace and honour.
Sayyad Habib, Dongaon, Buldana dt. – 443 303: Tam a post-graduate in political science and also taking PG in social science. I want to study all your literature deeply to understand India. I live in a small village in Buldana dt. (MS). T have many Dalit and BC friends. I have taken inspiration from Bahujan Sangharsh. T have also read BAMCEEF literature of Waman Meshram. I have attended many of its programmes. From my childhood I used to love those who are in distress and those who are persecuted. I had a friend from childhood. One day I had lunch in his house. Some people took objection. I have many Backward Caste friends. Dalits and Muslims are blood brothers. I agree with our Editor. Together we can tackle the Hindu nazi violence. Since 1991, I have been a working committee member of the Castribe Employces Organisation. This is Dalit employee’s organisation in Maharashtra. I have made 14 subscribers for Hindi DV which is the best and honest journal in the country. I have read many journals. But DV is the best in India. It has no fear. It publishes criticisms even against its Editor. DV is holding a Debate on Budhism, Sikhism. Islamic liberation theology, Vipassana etc.
Nagesh Choudhary, Editor, Bahujan Sangharsh, Rahate Colony, Wardha Road, Nagpur – 440 022: Your Editorial, “Savarkar’s invasion of Parliament” (DV March 16, 2003) is an eye-opener. This is their most recent push. Savarkar was one of the main architects of the Hindurashtra theory. Even Golwalkar had acknowledged his contribution. Savarkar’s elder brother, G.D. Savarkar, has written the book, Hindu Rashtra Mimansa. Golwalkar’s, we or Our Nationhood Defined, is the bible for Hindu nazis. Their latest onslaught is the Savarkar’s picture on the walls of Parliament. They are marching towards their goal without a single failure. No longer are there any hurdles in their way. Neither Leftists nor the 85% Bahujans. We are all after the political power. But they are after controlling our minds. Golwalkar said, “we are above ism”. He was right because all ism walas are controlled by them. Dalits and BC politicians included: –
They had declared that they would demolish the Babri mosque. They did it.
They said they would build the Ram temple at the very site of the mosque. Nobody can stop them. When Narasimha Rao, the Congress Prime Minister. could not stop them, will Vajpayee stop them?
They have started demolishing the Constitution without changing the words. Who will stop them?
They have introduced the rabid anti-Muslim Hindu song, Vande Mataram, in Parliament and many state assemblies at the beginning of the sessions. Did anybody dare object or stop it?
They have changed and reduced the size of the Ashoka Chakra on our currency notes and replaced it with Gandhi, a pro-Hindu leader. Did anybody stop them?
They are reducing the reservation quota of SC/ST/BC under one or the other pretext despite all sorts of opposition. Could anybody stop them?
Now. the BJP-led govt. at the Centre is introducing astrology in universities, promoting Sanskrit language and providing employment for Brahmins. Slowly Hindurashtra is being formed. Is there anybody worried over this complete Brahmin takeover? We are heading for the Marnu rule or Peshwa-type rule in whole of India. All non-Brahmins will become dumb cattle. There will be no education, no freedom of speech except that of praising, worshipping the Brahmins.
M.M. Satpute, A/1 – Dinanath, Near RTO, Andheri (W), Bombay – 400 053: I know your close relationship with the late Shankarananda Sastri. He used to narrate several occasions of his intimacy with you. He was very proud of you and you’re writing. your Dalit Voice and books. He used to sell your books and DV to friends and relatives. But I felt very sad, as a family member of DV, when the news of his death was published in DV. The report was too brief compared to his great work and a close associate of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He was a founder member of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan. ay- founder member of Peoples Education Society etc. DV has dongc a great disservice to Shastriji.
Ms. Sujata Wasnik, 14 – Thaware Colony, Nagpur – 440 014: Our book announced in DV Aug.1, 2003 back page Tri-Iblisi Shoshan Vyuh Vidhvans-11, is developed as a handbook of people’s struggle. In this book, we have presented a complete outline of the struggle so that exploited masses worried about their situation can play their role in the mission to overthrow Tri-Iblis and to establish Bahujanwadi social democracy. We are busy improving the effectiveness of both these parts. a revised edition (second edition) of Tri-Iblisi Part-I may be released in Nov. We may translate it in English, develop a website. We are always with you in your mission.
Dr. Daniel Sathiaraj c/o Henry Martyn Institute of Islamic Studies, Chirag Ali Lane, Hyderabad – 500 001: This refers to Dr. Abdullah Al-Kathany’s article, “When Jews cursed and killed Jesus why Christians go on supporting them?” (DV July 16, 2003, p.20). Jesus loved the people of the world and came into the world from heaven according to the god’s will. Jesus died on the cross as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. He died for us all. While hanging on the cross, Jesus prayed for all those who killed Him, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they do.” In fact, all the people of the world and their sins killed Jesus — rather He died for our sins. According to the Bible, salvation which God has provided for all mankind is from the Jews. Jesus was a Jew. Through faith in Him, all the families of the earth are blessed. Apart from Jesus. No one can be saved from his / her sins. God is holy and He hates sin. Even lying is a sin. All those who are saved by Jesus are descendants of Abraham by faith. Part of the Christian Scriptures is the Scripture for the Jews. Like the Jews, Christians believe that Isracl will win the final battle. The Scripture says:
An Oracle: This is the word of the Lord concerning Israel. The Lord. who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the spirit of man within him, declares: 2 “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. 3 On that day, when all the nations of the carth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. 4. On that day I will strike every horse [war plane] with panic and its rider with madness,” declares the Lord. “I will keep a watchful eye over the house of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. 5. Then the leaders of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The people of Jerusalem 4 are strong, because the Lord Almighty is their God.” 6 “On that day I will make the leaders of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a taming torch among sheaves. They will consume right and left all the surrounding peoples, but Jerusalem will remain intact in her place. 7 “The Lord will save the dwellings of Judabh first, so that the honor of the house of David and of Jerusalem’s inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah. 8 On that day the Lord will shield those who live in Jerusalem. so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the Lord going before them. 9 On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem. Mourning for the One They Pierced. 10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced [Jesus], and they will mourn for him as one mouins for an only child. and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. 11 On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be great, like the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 The land will mourn, each clan by itself, with their wives by themselves: the clan of the house of David and their wives, the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives, 13 the clan of the house of Levi and their wives, the clan of Shimei and their wives, 14 and all the rest of the clans and their wives.
Note: what is given in these brackets are my explanations All the prophecies in the Bible are coming true.
The above also will be fulfilled. Christians worship the one true God — the God of Israel — same as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob or Israel. It is this God who sent Jesus Christ from heaven. According to the Bible, God created the universe through Jesus Christ.
In your Lefler we ger the impression 1har you are derending the present US-UK Christian ruling Class support to Zionist aggression on innocent Palestinians — EDITOR.
M.H.M. Saleem, “Ashiana”, Main Road, Gungolli, Udupi dt., – 576 216: 1 fully agree with you when you say that the Muslims of India lack knowledge about the Indian social system. They know nothing of the caste and because of this think that Dalits are Hindu. myself was ignorant until I started reading Dalit Voice. Tt has become very easy for me now to understand any event that occurs around us when I look at it in the light of the analysis made in DV. It looks the Dalit Voice is becoming mightier and mightier day by day and it will become a powerful force in not so distant a future. When most of the newspapers report what happened, Dalit Voice explains why it happened. That makes all the difference to me and many more who are eager to know the inherent truth behind an event. The Quran speaks about identity.
We have classified you into different tribes, groups and families so that you can identify yourself.
These identities are equal but separate and separate and unequal. Even the deadliest enemy of Dalit Voice cannot fail to appreciate your mighty courage. Keep up the good work. Your honest intellectual, your creed is hard to find these days.
Nishikant Waghmare, 22 – Rajnigandha, Juhu Scheme, Bombay – 400 049: Thank you renewing my contacts with Dalit Voice after 15 years. Dalit Voice is really a good, informative and progressive magazine which I will call as “think tank” of Dalit movement’s real informative power. In the half century since “independence”, Indian Dalits have not given themselves a single “national” newspaper, a TV channel, good university, schools. colleges. national commercial bank, factory, sugar mills, cotton mills etc. Nobody in India fought the Brahmins so effectively and so scientifically as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Santosh Rana, 121/3 – Purbachal Kalitola Road, Calcutta – 700 078: There are 905 seats in the medical colleges run by the WB Govt. Of these, 54 seats are reserved for the STs. But this year, only 6 ST students have been admitted. This is so since last three years. The govt. has framed a rule that a student seeking admission in medical will have to score 40% marks: each subject in the joint entrance exam (JEE). They say they framed this rule on instruction of the Medical Council of India. But there is no such instruction. The qualifying exam for MBBS is higher secondary and not (JEE) which is a competitive exam. The minimum qualifying mark should be related to the higher secondary and not JEE. This year, the WB Govt. decided to allot 15% of scats to those paying Rs. 18 lakhs as capitation fee. They will not have to appear JEE. A 50% score in higher secondary will suffice. Then why not admit tribal students who score 50% or more in higher secondary? Why do you insist on a score in JEE? Because they have no money. It is only the rich and super-rich who will get higher education in West Bengal.
Anzar Ahmed Qasmi, Al-Nadwah College, Nadwah Nagar. Shoolagiri, Hosur tq. TN – 635 117: It gives us great pleasure to inform you that the students at our college are very keen to study Dalit Voice. They feel it will be a steppingstone for them to keep themselves well informed about the issues pertaining to the down- trodden segment of society. So, we request you to send to our library a complimentary copy of your journal.
Wil some generous member of our DV family help support the college demand — EDITOR.
Syed Shahabuddin, Flat 404, Block 8, East End Apts., Mayur Vihar-I Extn., Delhi – 110 096: Your Editorial in Dalit Voice (Aug.1, 2003: “85% of Indians may be Bahujans but how to convert this massive majority into voters?”) on the disunity in the Bahujan Samaj. This is primarily because there is no collective leadership. In the age of ethnicity and identity politics every social group wants Lo to see its face in the leadership. The top Bahujan Samaj patties as you identify them are the BSP, RPI, DMK, JD(S), JD (U), Samata. SP, RID. Show me one Muslim face anywhere. You want the Muslims not to trust the Brahmin and Rajput leaders: V.P. Singh, Chandrashekhar, Narasimha Rao, Sonia Gandhi (by marriage), Somnath Chatterjee, A.B. Bardhan. Why should they trust Kanshi Ram, Mayawati, Prakash Ambedkar. Laooo, Mulayam Singh, Deve Gowda? I can conceive of a situation when each of them projects itself as if it is — a jati party and no more. And then they come together to form an alliance with a collective leadership and adopt a policy of proportional reservation for all identifiable social groups in every walk of life, in public and private employment, in political representation, in distribution of welfare and development benefits, in bank credit and govt. loans and in all other services and facilities that the state provide. That would be a united front representing the entire Bahujan Samay. If Mayawati takes care of SCs and SC villages only, why shouldn’t the BSP be called a Dalit party? Time has come when no group within the Bahujan Samaj shall allow its interests to be sacrificed for the leading group. This sense of deprivation, this feeling of being ignored, this fact of being left out in the cold or of being manipulated through a few immoral and self-centered lackeys is behind the disunity of the Bahujan Samaj and its inability to stand together to face the common enemy. There is a struggle for leadership by each core group through its party with the help of a few satellites. Instead of removing misunderstandings, working out norms of coordination and standards of fair distribution of jobs, seats, places in the leadership at all levels, all the parties finally come to enter their own deals with one Brahmin party or the other. The truth is that the upper caste with its centuries of experience know how to manage situations or to deal with their friends, pseudo-friends and triendly enemies. Our Muslim, SC/ST/BC leaders lack this experience. Each is for himself. You speak of Bahujan Samaj. Every one knows only his jati and works for his own jati and wants to cheat all other jatis, use them if possible and leave them high and dry. This will not do. This is a voice of anguish. Let it reach your readers and the so-calledug, leaders of the Bahujan Samaj.
Pitam Padhi, At/PO: Pakjhola, via Semiliguda, Koraput dt. – 764 036: I am a Tribal working in the most backward tribal dt. of Orissa where the SC/STs occupy 70% of the total population. But they have lost their paternal property and also their “caste identity” and living in slavery because of the Manuwadis. I want to liberate them from the slavery by propagating Ambedkarism among my indigenous people. I want all the volumes of Babasaheb’s writings. You are my only hope.
Naveed Hussain, D-92, MMDA Colony, Arumbakkam, Madras – 600 106: I want Muslims to keep in touch with DV only. Dalit leaders may be corrupt and so are Muslim * leaders who are corrupt and purchased. We have corrupt film stars, corrupt journalists. But we still buy magazines promoted by these corrupt politicians and journalists. We do not stop seeing corrupt movies that blaspheme Muslims. We still have not stopped subscribing to Filmfare and trash magazines. We continue to hear abuses hurled against Muslims on TV, which is nothing short of intimidations, vilification and tarnishing of Muslim image. So, my request to Muslims is to keep in touch with hard and bitter realities of life of Muslims/Dalits in India through DV. I have not asked anybody to support this Dalit leader or that Dalit leader. But be in touch with DV so that the thinking and churning process begins. We are not even on to the first step on the ground floor (creation of awareness); how can we think of a stepping on to the next floor (politics). I am thankful that Brother Naushad Ansari is already a life-member, but he should encourage other Muslim friends to join DV and be in touch with DV. DV has many times acknowledged the corruption of Dalit leaders. Corruption is a way of life in India.
A. Xavier, Dept. Of English, St. Mary’s Hr. Sec. School, Dindigul – 624001: I have decided to write 15 volumes about Brahminical conspiracy. It is going to be my lifetime mission. I have already made a rough draft of 60 pages. Dalir Voice has inspired me to write these 15 volumes.
Sanil ML.N.,“Thanal”, Thenhippalam PO, Malappuram dt., – 673 636, (mnsanil@ambedkar.org ): Dalit Brahmins arc not ready to raise their issue. Hey, are exploiting the current political struggles. Most of them will enjoy the results. They are sanskritized in every respect. They are not ready to demystify their savarna affiliation. Most of them are enjoying their position as a Hindu. We are suffering from the dearth of organic Dalit intellectuals.
