T. K. Narayanan, Trivandrum: DV no. 19 editorial is excellent. Every dalit & oppressed Indian must read it to know where he stands in India. Marxism, as you rightly said, has failed in Hindu India owing to a set of people who have no will to equality due to their age-old breeding in the mire of a religion of inequality. Thus arose Marxism vs Vedanta with the blessings of the very founder of the Indian Communist Party. We have to tell our dalits the dangers from these fake revolutionaries. Sanatanists & “Socialist Brahmins” will be always together. One in content but differ only in form. Subscribers to DV from Kerala will slowly go up. Dalits here who earlier turned a deaf ear to our requests are now coming forward to accept DV which they can ill-afford to miss.
Dr. S. S. Maran, MBBS, Periyar Hospital, Rajapalayam. TN: When I was at Trichy attending the June 12-13 DK conference, Hindus cut my telephone wires and re- connections not given for 4 days. Situation here is tense. However. RSS helped we dalits to stand united. A local RSS leader. a Brahmin, came as my patient. I asked his plans to eradicate caste. He advised me to join RSS which, he assured. never discriminated on caste grounds. But as I examined his body. I found his cross thread. Asked how he explained this, he had no answer. This is the real face of the RSS. When dalits embraced Islam in our area, it was these people who made all the noise because they lost free servants. If there is no untouchability & no caste, there will be no Hinduism. Because Hinduism is the other name for caste. That is why the Kamakoti Shankaracharya recently asked Hindus to join RSS. Let our dalit brothers take note.
Nurul Islam Mazarbhuiya, Silchar, Assam: Muslims of NE India are being subjected to a new sort of persecution with the active cooperation of RSS agents in the govt. Villagers say the SDO of Karimganj sub-division connected with RSS is heading this gang to hound the Muslims out of India. They resorted to largescale arson, loot at Rushnabad, a village near the Cachar Sugar Mill, Chargola. Rushnabad is a dense forest area. Since 1960, some 200 Muslim families have been living there. In 1975, Forest authorities claimed this land but the villagers challenged it in the court which upheld their claim. The Forest dept. failed even in appeal. But the SDO appeared on the scene on June29 with a big police force & resorted to arson, looting. All the 200 houses were set on fire and property looted. They arrested 34 men and women. But the DC of Cachar denied the whole thing. Even Rashid Ahmed, principal, AKC Law College, and Fakrul Islam could not persuade the DC to make a spot study and find out the truth for himself. We have sent petitions to every authority but no action has been taken so far. Tell us how could we survive at this rate ?.
Dr. S. G. Balani, M. D., consulting physician. Marine Drive. Bombay: The demands of dalits are right. correct and reasonable. They are waking up not a day soon. You have decided to throw your lot with them and it is highly commend- able. And you have been doing your best for then for the last so many years. You deserve congratulations and all the best wishes. But you must also give solutions to their problems.
