New Delhi:
The number of Muslim children attending educational institutions is only 4 pc of the school-going children in India while the Muslims account for 18 pc of the country’s population. A survey will be conducted in 700 Muslim-run secondary schools in India to ascertain the causes of high illiteracy among Muslims, said Shahabuddin Desnavi, secretary of the Hamdard Trust. The cause of the high illiteracy among Muslims is mainly poverty and secondly isolation forced upon them by the Hindu majority.
