There are agreements and disagreements enacted, reacted or reached between nations, social groups and individuals in history. What was “controversial” about the “Communal Award” granted by the British govt, in 1932 when India was a subject nation? The parties for this Award were the Hindus, Muslims and the Untouchables, now called Dalits, The Award arose out of the communal composition of these three main communities constituting India. For the British, it was a thankless job and gave the Award to be implemented by the Indians themselves. Was it an end of the beginning of a solution for the three main nationalities comprising the peoples of India? It was none other than Dr. Ambedkar who brought forward the issue in a succinct manner in his famous book, – Pakistan or Partition of India. The Muslims and the Hindus could not even dream of a solution of this vexed question.
India that is Bharat: What happened In Indian history was an anti-climax. The British juxtaposed the Hindus and the Muslims and betrayed the Dalits with the connivance of M.K. Gandhi. Pakistan came into being as a Muslim “nation-state”. India became “free” with a new name that is Bharat. The democratic set-up worked up to this day is thoroughly immoral and unjust to all sections of the people.
So, the communal tangle cropped up again and again in all walks of life. With India made into a “democratic, socialist republic”, everyone expected a miracle. Nothing came out. With the burning Hindu nazi violence, “unity and integrity” went up in flames,
Babasaheb solution: India was abotoged into instability and conflict. What is the root of this matter? History offers only one thing. People cannot be one without “consciousness of kind”, as Dr. Ambedkar said. What about the agreed solution arrived at by all others? The tragedy of Indians was never lost sight of by the great Babasaheb who became the darling of the Indi- ans. The Dalits of this country, even though let down by the Hindus and the Muslims, live honestly with dedication, serving the country, lowing the country as their original motherland.
Sins of Muslim elite: The foreigners came one after another – the Hindus and the Muslims – now locked in self-destruction. The oppressed Muslims, the converts from the Dalits, continued to be neglected by the Muslim elite and targeted by Hindus. This is the Dalit standpoint
What is the way-out? Can the Hindus and the Muslims solve the issue, now came to be called the Babri- Masjid-Ram Janambhoomi “controversy? We Dalits did not create this but we are being dragged into it.
This controversy is the beginning of the end of the “communal Award” or the end of the beginning? Who can give effect to the New Award now before the court of the Muslims and the Hindus? For this controversy, resulting in so much of bloodbath, the culprits are the Hindus.
Prophetic words: In this fight between the Hindus and Muslims only the Dalits, the third and the biggest party, are capable of judging and giving the verdict because we are neither Hindus nor Muslims. Both belong to an alien religion. We are the only indigenous people. Dalits alone are capable of giving the Award to end the dispute and put the country in working order.
The social system of India, in the words of Babasaheb Ambedkar ‘has got an inherent tendency to divide people to the last man”. His words sound prophetic.
