Vijayawada: A Naxalite group has organised a “Samatha Volunteer Force”, an army of youth trained in self-defence, to counter attacks on Dalits in Andhra Pradesh.
The force is being organised by K.G. Sathyamurthy, who founded the Marxist-Leninist Centre after 16 years in the underground in the People’s War Group. The 62-year-old ex-Naxalite leader said the force had succeeded in checking possible attacks on Dalits by Hindus with the Dalit movement itself growing from the stage of “self-respect to self-defence” after the Thunder carnage.
