Justice K.M. Yusuf said the Left Front govt’s education policy of abolishing English teaching at the primary stage in schools has created two classes of people in West Bengal – children of ruling class go to English medium (private) schools, while the children of rest go to vernacular medium schools.
He said this on Sept. 20, while delivering his judgment on a writ petition by an advocate seeking the re- introduction of English teaching at the primary stage. The judge said English should not be treated in the way it was being done now. The Importance of English could not be ignored in the learning of science, technology and medicine.
