Bangalore: The Editor of Dalit Voice, V.T. Rajshekar, is turning 70 next year, on July 17, 2002.
The first issue of DV — hailed as a new experiment in Indian journalism — came out on Oct.15, 1981 though it was unofficially being published even before that. DV did not miss even a single issue during these 21 long years of publication — a record in the history of Indian journalism.
Author of about 100 books, big and small, V.T. Rajshekar has converted DV into India’s oldest, largest circulated and the most powerful journal of the oppressed — forming over 85% of the country’s population.
“Media Centre”: During this long period, DV has crossed several hurdles and yet fought the ruling Brahminical Social Order without ever compromising even an inch. It has also propounded many socio- philosophical thoughts giving a new thrust and new shape to the struggle of the oppressed. During this long period, every prediction made by DV has proved correct.
However, the only dream of the Editor to launch a “Media Centre” for the oppressed Bahujans remains unfulfilled.
