Editorial: “Will the Indian People’s Front help revolution?”
A new Left organisation claiming to represent revolutionaris wedded to scientific socalism has taken shape raising fresh hopes about the country’s languishing Left movement. Called the Indian People’s Front, it was launched in New Delhi on April 26, 1982. The Delhi convention was considered a big succees. Ramakant Dwivedi was elected president and Rajaram of Bihar, gen.secretary indicating pro-China Naxalites as Its leadership. Speakers criticised the pro- Soviet CPI &CPM.
So far so good. But what can the IPF offer to Untouchables and Tribais – the worst victims of caste oppression ?. We are sorry to note that the speeches of the leadership not even referred to this problem. Untouchables are killed and their properties destroyed not because they are “poor” but because they are outcastes. If poverty is the reason, why the “poor”among Hindus are not attacked? Hence the problem of SC/ST is not economic but social. The same thing applies to Muslims and Christians whose religion is hostile to brahminism. Tribal are getting annihilated because they are referring to be Hinduised. The above four sections (SC/ST/Muslims&Christians) constitute the country’s “poorest of the poor”. Their “poverty” is the byproduct of their social Exploition.
The IPF has ignored this most vital fact.
In India, it is mainly the Untouchables and Tribals who are born revolutionaries. Brahmins and other high caste Hindus can hardly be revolutionaries. If IPF does’nt know this, it will turn out to be yet another younger brother of CPM-CPI.
Dalits alone can liberate Dalits: T.K. Narayanan, Trivandrum. It is a fact that the sole cause of the Untouchables suffering is caste system. So only the victims of caste can liberate themselves from caste. Not those born in a caste. Ambedkarism alone can help us to prepare for a caste war. No political party is interested is a caste war because it is led by Hindus. Communist parties are no exception.
PM snubs Indian Dalits in US: Indira Gandhi refused to accept a petition by the Indian Dalits settled in US on the largescale violence on Dalits in India, says a “Statesman” report (July 29, 1982). Indians living abroad in comfort will not be helping by commenting on situations back come they know little about, she said snubbing members of VISION, headed by Dr.Laxmi Berwa. She refused to meet the VISION deputation
Poona Pact and the Political Bonded “Labourers”
M.Kamalkannan, Tirukollur,TN: This Pact is responsible for today’s reserved constituencies which produced our political bonded labourers – barking dogs outside Hindu houses fed on the thrown out crumbs of rotten bread.
