Editorial: “RSS bare its fangs at Agra”
The national executive of the RSS meeting at Agra (July 10) has given the topmost priority to Tamil Nadu strengthening our conclusion that IN is turning into India’s sociological laboratory. Entire India is watching the developments in TN. RSS is, therefore, right in expressing concern over what is happening there. The latest attack on Veeramani, the Dravida Kazagham chief, the way the RSS boys rejoiced over it and the attacks on Brahmins that followed, the Dalit-Muslim solidarity with DK- all these go to prove that TN is in the grip of a caste war and the RSS is doing its best to sharpen the contradictions.
In the neighbouring Kerala, RSS-Marxist (meaning the Ezhavas) clashes have resulted in over 100 deaths. In TN, the RSS is recruiting mainly the Backward Caste Thevars.
India’s national press and Dalits:
R. Vijayakumar, staff reporter, Deccan Herald, Bangalore, quotes Dr. Ambedkar saying “Indian press is dominated by the upper castes. They do not recognise even the huge number of Untouchables. They always have contempt for me for championing the cause of the downtrodden”. Babasaheb also said “press is dominated by caste-arrogant South Indian Brahmins”. What is the position today? Hardly any difference. What is depressing still is that while most of today’s journalists call themselves “radicals” and “extreme leftists”, when it comes to caste they raise their hood of communalism and strike.
“Dalits in America look at India”.
Dr. Velu Annamali and M.M. Kamble, Texas, USA, write on the latest violent “Gujarat Caste War” launched by the upper castes over the reservations to SC/STs.
“Brahmins oppose reservations”.
N. Kasiraman, president of the Tamil Brahmins Association, on July 11 threatened If reservation policy is scrapped his people will violently resist it. “Letters to editor” by T.K. Naryanan, Trivandrum, Dr. S.S. Maran, Rajapalayam, TN etc.
