Madras: The Dravida Kazhagam (DK) is planning to stage ‘Ravana lila’, to counter the cultural onslaught of northerners. “If they can burn the effigy of Ravana up north”, said the DK general secretary, K. Veeramani, “why can’t we give the same treatment to Ram, Lakshman and Sita? Ram cult had done much to spread religious fanaticism. Veeramani spoke about an attempt to impose north Indian religious traditions in Tamil Nadu. (Times of India Oct. 12.)
