We have lived in Delhi off and on three times – the last one for two years (1998-2000) and know all the Dalit leaders and their organisations. M.L. Gautam’s Letter has no plan of action even when he is convinced that the ruling Brahminical Social Order (BSO) is not ready to keep up its promise. If he and his Action Council know it, what action they are planning? On that the Letter is blank.
Slaves have to fight: The BSO is the ruler and we are the beggars, slaves. Are the slave-owners ever ready to concede the demand of slaves? The slaves have to fight for it, sacrifice for it and die for it. But our capital city-based Dalit leaders or for that matter Dalits even outside are not ready for such a supreme sacrifice. Not even in the case of a “national memorial” for their own Master Saviour and “Father of India”. The reason for this cowardice is that those threatening agitation are all reservationwalas who are more interested in protecting their selfish interests. Babasaheb thought the Dalits who have enjoyed the fruits of his labour (reservation), would turn into tigers and if hurt would eat the slave-owners. Not only this has not happened but quite a number of our reservationwalas have turned into stooges of the slave-owners. Babasaheb had experienced this situation at the fag end of his life and had wept over it.
That does not mean we have no hope in the reservationwalas. DV readership comes only from this rank. They are made of different metal. They will attend any effective agitation to take over the 26-Apilur Road We suggest a massive storming of the place and jamming the road for half a day. Is Gautam’s Action Council ready to act? The BSO is not in favour of a national memorial for Babasaheb because the 26-Alipur Rd. will then become a daily pilgrimage centre for thousands and the country’s most sought after memorial, completely eclipsing the nearby Raj Ghat for their bogus mahatma. Donkeys are having sprawling memorials in Delhi over which crores and crores of rupees were spent. Not even an ant bothers to visit these memorials. But the country’s tallest titan has none. And his children are not bothered about it- EDITOR
