Bangalore: The government’s assurance in Parliamerit on Dec.23 that “there will be no immediate disturbance of the present dispensation regarding promotions” of SC/STs is a mischievous, if not dangerous one.

The Supreme Court judgment on Mandal, exceeding its brief, had interfered with SC/ST reservations in promotions (Dec. 16,92 p.3 “SC/ST reservations in promotions hit”). There was a country wide furore by SCISTs for interfering with their human rights and MPs raised strong objections in Parliament. But who cares for the 120 SC/ST MPs?
