Ashok Nilay, president of the Maharashtra Republican party in an article, “A case for reservation in services under the Government of India in respect of Buddhists converted from Scheduled Castes in India”, has referred to this penalty paid by all those who followed Dr. Ambedkar and embraced Buddhism: “On the 14th October 1956, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar embraced Buddhism. The Government of India at the Instance and opposition of Babu Jagjivan Ram to Buddhism and Dr. Ambedkar, with a view to taking political vengeance against Dr. Ambedkar and his followers refused concessions to Buddhists under their order made on the 26th October, 1956, that is just after twelve days after Babasaheb’s conversion to Buddhism. The sole intention of the Congress Ministry then was to malign the image of Babasaheb Ambedkar. The chief architects alive today of this political vendetta are Morarji Desai and Babu Jagjivan Ram and Chaudhari Charan Singh who were the main pillars of the then Congress Government. “Untouchables have been thus punished for following Dr. Ambedkar. VP Singh Government had to come to undo this mischief in 1990. The upper castes punished VP for doing the Justice.
