Bangalore: The Deccan Herald (Nov. 16) published a picture of Jawaharlal Nehru’s statue standing oppo- site the Vidhana Soudha, seat of the State govt here, with the following caption: “Not even a garland for this silent spectator of the big bash on Nov. 14”.
Nov. 14 was Chacha Nehru’s birth anniversary and the govt. all over India celebrated it as “Children’s day”. But his statue attracted no attention. In Delhi, VIPs went to Nehru’s samadhi and “paid homage” for the sake of TV and press photographs – not out of any love. Whole thing is hypocratical. Both the “Father of the nation” and “Uncle of the nation” have been forgotten by their own “nation”. How strange? Now, the two poor souls are crying from the dustbin of history for attention. But the ungrateful grandchildren of the Gujarati Bania and the Kashmiri Pandit have sold the country to America via the World Bank.
Father of India: But what about that Untouchable, Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on April 14? Babasaheb’s statue standing just opposite “Chacha Nehru” gets cartloads of garlands and gets buried in flowers with thousands paying homage. Babasaheb’s children have not forgotten the “Father of India”, even the grandchildren of the Bapu and the Chacha attend r. Ambedkar Jayanti and sing his song. See the sea change that has taken place in India within half a century.
