Patna: At least 13 persons, mostly belonging to the weaker sections including Harijans were massacred allegedly by members of the Kunwar sena (a private army of Rajput landowners) in two villages of Bhojpuri district in the small hours June 23. The victims belonging to Deoband and Bahara villages within Terari police station were all supporters of the Indian People’s Front (IPF). At least seven others were seriously injured by the armed assailants who raided the villages. The carnage is believed to be a sequel to the killing of two Rajput’s of the neighboring villages by the IPF supporters three days ago. The scene of occurrence is within the Arrah constituency which has been simmering with caste tension in the aftermath of the elections. (Hindu June 24)
