Bangalore: The Dec.17 Cabinet expansion was aimed at ensuring “social justice”. The elevation of Shavanna and Thimmapur has given representation to the Left Hand group of Scheduled Castes in the Cabinet. Their appointment must placate the Madiga or Left Hand group which has lately been complaining that the Right Hand or Chaluvadi group is cornering the benefits of reservation. Till now, all the three SC Cabinet Ministers, K.H. Ranganath, Mallikarjun Kharge and Ms. Motamma (who is also a member of the Congress Working Committee), belonged to the Right Hand group. The caste and community-wise break-up of the ministry following today’s expansion is Vokkaligas (including Chief Minister) six, Lingayats seven, Muslims five, SCs six, STs, Brahmins, Kurubas, Idigas and Marathas two each, Christian, Jain, Reddy Lingayat, Bestha, Golla, Bunt, Rajput, Kodava, Kuruhinasetty and Balija one each. Each and every caste and community is strengthening itself through identity formation.
The upper castes (Hindu) became rulers and strong by strengthening their “caste identity“. The oppressed are late but better late than never.
