Bangalore: The recent outburst of Chief Election Commissioner, J.M. Lyngdoh, an upright Mongoloid Christian from Northeast, against politicians calling them as “cancer on society” has pleased the hearts of the middle class.
The name “middle class” is a misnomer because it is a name invented to hide the country’s upper castes (15%) who are a minority and yet the country’s rulers. The problem is this class itself is suffering from a serious cancer of contradictions.
As opinion-makers and mind-manipulators, they want a Minister for every function they organise. Media people who belong to this very class will not attend a function if there is no political VIP. It is these very upper castes who make use of politicians to undertake all their nefarious activities. Yet they hate politicians. Why this contradiction in their behaviour? This contradiction is caused by a peculiar cancer they suffer from.
Stomachache: Lyngodh is an honest officer. He suffers from cancer like our upper castes. Though we do not agree with his remarks, we cannot attribute any motive to him. A little deeper thinking will convince him that he is wrong. And we are sure he has the honesty to admit that he sang the right music at the wrong time.
Coming back to the cancer of these upper castes, we have to examine why they hate the politicians. This is because they hate the rise of a new breed of politicians like Laloo Prasad Yadav, Mayawati and the like.
India’s parliamentary democracy, as it comes of age, is gradually passing the political power to the hands of such down-to-earth “lower caste” politicians who do not belong to this cancer-ridden “middle class”. It is this stomachache that makes this class hate politicians. Because every new election pushes power low and lower down. Backward Castes, Untouchables and Tribals are coming up in a big way and capturing political power – so far, the monopoly of the upper castes. Hence this stomachache. That is how Lyngdoh’s “cancer” speech sounded like soothing music to these upper castes suffering from stomachache. There may be some noble souls among upper castes who are exceptions to this rule.
Our upper caste rulers say the politicians are corrupt. But the famous stock market scam that literally brought down the govt. was not caused by the politicians. Harshad Mehta belonged to the upper caste. The latest mother of all scams, the stamp paper scam, has shown that top police officers and bureaucrats, all upper castes, are corrupt.
Who is not corrupt: Who is not corrupt in India? Tehalka exposure has shown army generals corrupt. The judiciary’s soft corner to our ex-Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao and TN Chief Minister Jayalalita, both acquitted of all charges, has shocked the whole country.
Who is not corrupt in India? Journalists, teachers, doctors, lawyers, bankers – none can escape. All those belonging to the cash-rich “middle class” are either bribe-givers or bribe-takers. As long as there is a bribe-giver there is a bribe-taker. Even the bribe-giver is corrupt. He is offering the bribe because he is doing something illegal. Or to cut short the procedure.
India itself is ranked as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. And corruption here refers to money corruption. Only the “middle class” is flush with money. From where it got so much of money when the rest of India is hand to mouth and a large section virtually starving? This “middle class” became rich by robbing the rest of Indians who belonged to the poorer (read “low caste”) sections.
It is this corrupt “middle class” that is so much worried about corruption and India’s politicians becoming corrupt when the fact is it is this class which is the cause of all our corruption.
Hating to vote: This “middle class” only talks but does nothing. It doesn’t even go to vote. This is because this class hates to stand in the Q with the “lower castes” who turn up in full strength. What right it must criticise India’s politicians?
This “middle class” boasts that it is the country’s think tank. Fine. If this tank applies little thinking it will understand that “politicians” are nothing but the products of our parliamentary democratic system which is the creation of the Constitution of India. When it condemns the politicians, this middle class is actually undermining the very legitimacy of the entire democratic system.
Method in madness: When this “middle class” condemns our politicians (meaning public leaders), they are not mad. There is a method in their madness. When the yuppies condemn politicians, they are actually condemning democracy itself, which they hate. They hate it because it produces people whom they hate from the bottom of their heart: Laloo Prasad, Mayawati, Phoolan Devi etc.
It is this growing “middle class” which is behind the rise of BJP and made it to appoint a Constitutional Review Commission and tried to kill parliamentary democracy itself and replace it with a presidential system of govt. Fortunately this experiment failed. But that does not mean they have given up their experiment. It is there in the psyche of this class. The psyche is essentially anti-democratic. In other words, dictatorial – which is the other word for Hindutva. The country’s democratic structure, based on its multinational character, is itself under threat because of this cancer-ridden, hate-mongering “middle class” mania.
