With ref. to my article, “Caste destruction impossible: Dalit unity only through Buddhism” (DV Aug. 1’97 p.16), I want to add that in a speech at Colombo, Dr. Ambedkar had said:
“We have for Fong fought for rights on political basis to get ourselves represented in various legislatures of India and to be tolerated in a society and religious institutions. We have not been altogether successful, which means that our solvation cannot dis- covered through political platforms”.
He adds that he has come to the inevitable conclusion that salvation of the Scheduled Castes is to be found only in Buddhism. (Source Material on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Vol.1, MS Govt. Publications).
